PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION

TCL: https://www.tcl.fr/en - the network of public transportation in Lyon. This includes:

  • 4 metro lines (MA, B, C, D)
  • 2 cable cars (F1, 2)
  • 7 tram lines (T1-7)
  • 26 high frequency bus lines (C1-26)
  • More than 50 regular frequency bus lines (Bus 1, 2, 3, etc.)

Overall, public transportation in Lyon runs from 6AM to midnight (2AM on Friday and Saturday) but please check the timetable of the line you intend to use to be sure.

VÉLO’V

The red bikes seen all over the city come from a company called Vélo’v and are widely accessible throughout Lyon. To use them, you need to have a Vélo’v account, which you may create on the website or via the Vélo’v app.

ON FOOT

Lyon is generally considered a very walkable city. Its compact city center, historical sites, and pedestrian-friendly streets make it easy for residents and visitors to navigate on foot. Many of Lyon's main attractions, such as Vieux Lyon (the old town), Place Bellecour, and the banks of the Rhône and Saône rivers, are easily accessible by walking. Additionally, Lyon has an extensive network of pedestrian streets and pathways, making it convenient for pedestrians to explore the city safely. However, like any city, there may be some areas where walking is less practical or enjoyable, but overall, Lyon is known for its walkability.

CAR

As part of its fight against pollution, Greater Lyon has introduced a ‘Zone à Faibles Emissions’ (ZFE – Low Emissions Zone) covering Lyon, Villeurbanne and Caluire, as well as Bron Privately owned vehicles with a Crit’Air 4, 5 or ‘Non classé’ (non-classified) disc, as well as vehicles without a disc, will no longer be allowed to drive and park on roads within the area concerned. Checks will be carried out by the police and offences will be recorded.
